“Once students have decided that they are not talented, their brains stop working efficiently. They stop persevering and paying attention.”

“A teacher should never assume that a student who initially fails to understand an explanation is incapable of progressing”

“If children were born with anything, it is a sense of the invisible beauty of the world.”

Motivational Speaker Simerjeet Singh captivates Oman

After a short (~2.5 hours) and pleasant early morning flight (Oman Air: Delhi to Muscat), as I landed on the tarmac that represented the country of Oman on a pleasant April morning, I could sense a vibe that represented a culture that is a sacred amalgamation of tradition and subtle modernity. Niloufer Aga, Director of Reflections Oman LLC, and my contact there, awaited my arrival and briefed me on the Omani traditions. As we conversed, I shared with Niloufer, my intimacy with the people in the Middle East and UAE, having spent almost close to a decade, visiting Dubai, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Jordan amongst other countries in the EMEA region. I have always been received with warmth and welcoming smiles.

Excited about kicking off the ‘Rediscover Your Spark’ workshop, I headed towards my destination, the Hormuz Grand Hotel, my mind already in pre-prep mode and rehearsing what I understood about Omanis so that I could mold my workshop to make it most relevant to them. A word about my audience: The Omanis are by far the friendliest people I have ever met, this being my second trip to Oman after six years, it felt like home. The streets of Oman reminded me of the little streets of Delhi, a reflection of Indianness in its most desi way.

Oman’s culture as it stands now, is a product of 200 years of evolution, with architecture inspired by that of the Indian Mogul era and an industry that once thrived on agriculture and fishing. Today, Oman is a contending country in the banking and other financial services, as well as import.

Muscat

The workshop I had been engaged for, titled ‘Rediscover Your Spark’, was a meticulously planned event to help my audience identify that each one of them had a spark within them and that even within the boundaries of their culture, nothing stopped them from rediscovering and igniting it.

50 executives and associates from Bank Dhofar, Bank Muscat, Shell Oman, Areej Vegetable Oils and Derivatives SAOG and Galfar Engineering SAOG came in for the workshop and spent a fruitful day engaging in the tools, games and interactive sessions of the workshop. This workshop was specifically targetted at the senior leadership executives, who, during the course of their careers, have already dealt with high tension high-risk decision-making, multi-cultural teams with polaric competencies that require a constant high span of attention and leadership skills. Add to this, most of them have compromised in some way in their personal lives to reach their professional heights.

My workshop aims at addressing that overkill and bringing the child-like enthusiasm back in them. While they have learnt to think differently, the workshop brings them from a sphere of complexity to an arena of simplicity, basically, the joy de vivre.

‘Rediscover Your Spark’ is a workshop that brings the gift of self discovery to life. I urge the leaders to take a pause and feel the air. My thought-provoking questions and fun interactions sprinkled generously with real-life examples makes for a perfect introspection recipe. It’s only when an individual goes after his/her inner calling that the journey of self-discovery begins, just the way mine did. This is what my workshops aim to do.

Many participants have been gracious enough to reach out to me during and after my workshops with kind words about how I helped them build a new perspective and carve out a new path in this mature stage of their professional and personal lives.

As I addressed my audience (in the picture below), I saw wonder, awe and curiosity amongst the various executives, and was greeted with a lot of pertinent questions on how many different ways one could define one’s own inner calling.

20150422_111722Here’s local press coverage about the workshop:

PressReader - Connecting People Through News.clipularSharing happy moments with the encaptured group, I realized how different and yet how similar we all were, irrespective of our diversities. My workshop touched each one of them, and they had a question to ask as they left the venue: ‘How do I set my spark on fire?’ Rather, I thought, it was about reigniting that lost spark. But I kept that thought to myself and let the leaders arrive at their own perfect answers. As long as they have thought about it, and questioned the status quo, they will have their answers. That thought in mind, I decided to explore the beautiful country while I was there.

20150422_170852A good workshop and a headiness that only a successful project can give, took me on a leisurely quest to discover the beauty of Oman across:

The Amouage Factory, where I spent some hard earned cash on The King of Perfumes,
The Al Bustan Palace – Ritz Carlton and the Bar Al Jissah Shangri La Resort,
And visited the Fish Market early morning to experience the fascinating sight of boats bringing in fresh catch.

Thankfully for my family, I did get a chance to shop for souveniers of Omani Frankinscence and traditional bakhoor at the Souq in Muscat. Famous for a variety of museums, Oman has a history that was sketched by its prophets, kings and legends that have enticed travelers to this beautiful Sultanate. I wasn’t able to visit every tourist attraction, but what I saw left me in awe of the country.

Waking up to motivation: City of Pearls, Hyderabad

Keynote Speaker Simerjeet in HyderabadSpeak of Hyderabad and the very first thought that comes to anybody’s mind, would be ‘Hyderabadi Biryani’ and ‘Irani Chai’, of course, apart from the famous Charminar and the mystic fort of Golconda. I am a food lover, and my quest for experiencing various cuisines got a new high when my work brought me to the City of Pearls. The laid back feel of a 40 decade-old heritage, combined with the vibrant young IT crowd offered me a promise of excitement.

Hyderabad Convention Center

My quest to make a difference in the lives of people by assisting them to identify their best traits and reach their best potential has taken me to places far and wide. I have traveled the Middle East, UK, and South East Asia and conducted hundreds of events and workshops successfully, leaving in my wake, inspired and motivated people who have expressed their gratitude here and here.

Motivational Talk for Vodafone Hyderabad

Hyderabad offered me some of my biggest clients, Vodafone AP Circle Meet being one of the largest audiences I had ever addressed in the early part of my journey as a motivational speaker. My keynote speech for this enthusiastic crowd of over a 1000 Vodafone Associates at the Novotel Convention Centre became one of my primary early successes and since then I have worked with all the major circles of Vodafone India.

I have also conducted successful leadership workshops and motivational talks for clients such as HP and Novartis Pharma.

The management of Kantar TNS India Pvt. Ltd. engaged me for workshops for their next two managerial tiers in the hierarchy after the leadership keynote I gave at their annual retreat in Goa on the concept of culture building in today’s technologically shrunken world became a hit with the leaders.

I did take some time out to sight-see and I wasn’t really surprised to see a large crowd of people outside the famous Paradise biryani restaurant. My evening walk took me around some of the best architectures that were built into IT parks. Google’s huge sprawling campus amazed me, and I could see the pace of economic activity that Hyderabad was picking up.

On the contrary, the old city reflected a history that spoke about the rule of the Nizams and the Mughals. An aroma of spicy feelings (pun intended) enveloped me as I entered its interiors. Every where that you see, the High Court, the Charminar, the old dilapidated National Hotel and the Golconda Fort scream vintage architecture and take you back to the heritage of the British times. The Salarjung museum has artifacts that amaze and awe you.

The Physics of The Quest

“I’ve come to believe that there exists in the universe something I call “The Physics of The Quest” — a force of nature governed by laws as real as the laws of gravity or momentum. And the rule of Quest Physics maybe goes like this:

“If you are brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting (which can be anything from your house to your bitter old resentments) and set out on a truth-seeking journey (either externally or internally), and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue, and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher, and if you are prepared – most of all – to face (and forgive) some very difficult realities about yourself… then truth will not be withheld from you.” Or so I’ve come to believe.”

Project Bahrain: Golden Memories

One of the countries that I love being invited to as a speaker and motivational coach, is the Kingdom of Bahrain. As royal as its name, Bahrain has been a great factor of excitement and fulfillment for me as a coach.

My first workshop in the Kingdom of Bahrain (and probably one of the first in the Gulf Region) for the E Kanoo Group was arranged seven years ago by Leaders Institute for Training and Development, a primary partner of my services in the Middle East and Gulf countries. Led by Mr. Ghalib, Leaders Bahrain is one of the top most training companies in the geography, bringing several globally renowned leadership coaches and motivational speakers into Bahrain. There has been no looking back since then.

Accelerating Growth Bahrain Poster

My most recent motivational seminar was in March this year, on Accelerating Growth, and received a huge response from the kind people of Bahrain. Bahrainis have a great desire to learn, and adapt to a changing world. All my speeches in Bahrain have seen packed conference rooms and auditoriums.

Lulu Hypermarket and The Jawad Group are some of the organizations in the Kingdom that have invited me to train their associates and conduct workshops for managers and leaders. A frequent invitee to the Gulf regions, I have studied and understood the intricacies of the Arab culture very deeply. As a motivational speaker who customizes each keynote and workshop according to the cultural sensitivities and diversity of various audiences, I found it an exciting challenge to address exactly those matters that the lovely people of Bahrain had difficulty facing, in their professional areas.

Selfie with Leaders Bahrain

Leaders Training Company Bahrain – #Selfie with the Management

What impressed me most is the friendly nature of the people of Bahrain, and I felt right at home, whether I was in a hotel, giving a keynote, or in a mall, shopping for my family.

More so, I have found some unique things even in their professional culture. That said, Bahrainis value punctuality and I was glad to see that all my students were present at the venue well in time.

Follow the link to read the news article of my latest leadership workshop in Bahrain, which touched on topics like understanding what the changes happening across the business world mean to businessmen, executives, business development managers, as well as sales, marketing and customer service staff. I also spoke about how to adapt to this shift without much resistance to change.

Here’s a snapshot of the latest news coverage in the region on the workshop that I conducted on “Accelerating Growth” and “Adapting to Change”.

And some testimonials from the Gulf region.

And while in Bahrain, of course, I did make some time to soak into its glamour. The best place to experience Arab culture in its grandeur, Bahrain offers the freedom and liberty of Dubai, and the ‘nazaaqat’ of its ethnicity.

Extremely modern highway infrastructure and modern architecture can be seen across the kingdom, especially when driving through the King Fahd Causeway that connects the kingdom to Saudi Arabia.

Every time I bid farewell to the beautiful Kingdom, all my thoughts are focused on “When would my next assignment bring me back?”

From Pune to Israel – Inspiration across borders

In an ever shrinking world, it gets easier to transcend borders and reach audiences that were once ‘distanced by miles in between’.

One of the best examples of a shrunken globe is the fact that distances have melted away, leaving behind a virtual world where everybody is connected to everybody else. That was how the Amdocs US head office contacted me to give a motivational speech at their Testing Managers Champion Session in Pune. This was one of the unique audiences I addressed, part of them present before me, and part of them, miles away in Israel, connected to my talk by a webcast.

This led to several more assignments, including leadership keynote for the Amdocs Elite Experts Internal Employee Award Conference at the Amdocs Campus in Magarpatta City, Pune.

Technology, as everyone rightly says, has broken barriers and for me, a new perspective unfolded, as I realized how I could reach exponential people using cutting edge technology. A truly virtual audience.

The Pune that’s in the news today, is a rapidly escalating IT hub, and very clearly, a budding Tier I city. Owing to this, I have had several assignments in the city apart from the Amdocs projects.

My previous speaking assignments in Pune include a motivational keynote speech for the Vodafone IT Team Meeting at Le Meridien, and as a motivational speaker at their Strategy Kick Off meeting at the JW Marriott hotel in the city.

My keynotes are designed with the aim of adding value to my audiences using a mix of current market scenario and the different perspectives on dealing with change and dynamic trends.

Vodafone Strategy Meeting

Vodafone Strategy Meeting – with Mr. Ishmeet Singh, Business Head at Vodafone Mumbai Circle.

The Vodafone engagements were important projects for me, given the primary focus on internal initiatives of the organization. The telecom industry has seen several game-changers in the recent past and for me to include the market scenario with inputs pertaining to regaining the cutting edge while navigating the volatile market was quite a challenge. I feel proud to share that my success was appreciated by clients. You can view their testimonials here.

Goal: No regrets before I breathe my last

“Live true to your heart’s own song” ~ is how author Bronnie Ware’s website greets us. Happiness is the evidence of life – of being alive. Imagine, if one knew that being alive is not an option anymore, and that they only had a few more days to live, what would one do?

Bronnie Ware penned down bestselling book ‘The Top Five Regrets of the Dying – A Life Transformed by the Dearly Departing’, based on the experiences she had while caring for people about to die, as their palliative nurse.

Bronnie was with them during the last 3 to 12 weeks of their lives, and was an integral part of their journey through turbulently changing emotions, fear, anger, regrets, denial, acceptance and finally, peace. Having been with them in the last leg of their journey, Bronnie underwent a transformation in her life as well, through the regrets of these dying individuals, whose final days, she became a vital part of.

Have you ever given it a thought?

What would you do if you knew you were going to die?

Would you make a bucket list and set around to checking items off it?

Or would you make amends in life?

Would you seek people you left behind long ago to move on to greener pastures?

Would you find that one true love you gave away because you were egoistic and apologize?

What would you do?

Turn spiritual?

Turn extravagant?

Use up all your resources?

Give them away to charity?

Seek your relatives and ensure a secure life for them?

Beckon all your old and new friends to join a reunion?

Travel till you breathe your last?

Or retreat within the confines of home and family?

What would you do?

“Death is not extinguishing the light; it is only putting out the lamp because dawn has come.” – Rabindranath Tagore

Here’s what Bronnie Ware discovered from these kind souls who taught her what living truly means, as they prepared to die:

The top most regret

I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me:

How many times do we face a situation in which we stifle our own thoughts, wishes and desires in order to appease those around us?

When a 15 year old who dreams of becoming a journalist takes admission in Medicine because he is expected to become a doctor like mom and dad;

When the young lady squashes her love to marry the man of her parents’ choice, having no clue what he is and not knowing how he will treat her all her life;

When you kept postponing that small vacation to Italy because you had to earn financial security so your family would be rich, and today, are ailed by rheumatoid arthritis and can’t go anywhere without cringing in pain;

When you cried in disbelief but did as your boss said, even though lying and manipulating real facts and numbers was against your principles;

— You know you are living the life others expect of you, and not one true to yourself. This video will inspire you to live a life true to yourself :

Top 2nd regret

I wish I hadn’t worked so hard:

One fine day, you wake up and realize your son just became a dad. You have a grandson!! Taking your grandson in your arms, you try to remember what your own son looked like 30 years ago – and you realize you had no clue. Where had those years gone? Your wife looks much older than the last time you looked at her properly.

Many patients, in fact, all the men nursed by Bronnie Ware expressed the regret that they had paid a huge price for working hard – the joys of the moment.

If you think there is no time, thing again. Life is always an eternity in a moment. You choose what you do in that eternity. If you do not allot some eternities for your family, and for the things you really want to do, then all your waking moments will be a whirlpool of papers, presentations, costing, budgets, and invoices.

You choose your moments. Balance them. Fill them up with life.

Top 3rd regret

I wish I had had the courage to express my feelings:

Did you let your love go because you were afraid to express your love to him/her?

Do you regret that last fight with your father, just before he passed away, and wished you had told him how much you loved and respected him, just one more time?

Are you carrying resentment because you swallowed your pride and hurt when your best friend hit on your girl and stole her away?

Do you push love away because you are afraid of being hurt?

If your heart is a burial ground of all these unexpressed feelings, go express them today!! Life gives no second chances. Live it with gusto and honesty. To have loved and lost is better than not having loved at all. If you think your best friend is ‘using’ you, go tell them you are done being used. If you always knew photography was the career for you, go tell your boss you are quitting.

Whatever you do, express what you feel. Be true to the ones around you. Be true to the image that stares back at you in the mirror.

Top 4th regret

I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends:

Reunions, friendly get-togethers, night-out with pals and the likes are bygone days, when there were no smart phones and Internet to keep you so overly connected that a hangout replaces a physical get-together. Certainly not when you are dying.

We all are guilty of having ditched plans with friends on pretext of work so many times in life. But we pride on our friendship, because we are friends forever. Virtual or ‘psychic’ friendships sound great but the physical presence of a friend is very important to feel fulfilled in life.

Bronnie found from several of her wards that they missed their friends during the last days. Understandably so. The friendly banter, the name calling, the standing up for each other – Don’t we all miss it?

The ‘I’ll pay for you, don’t worry’ friend, the ‘rescue me from this mess’ friend, the ‘walk in uninvited and feel at home’ friend, the ‘always there’ friend, the ‘3.00 AM’ friend who you can call at any unearthly hour and he will talk to you unflinchingly, the ‘cricket’ gang… I could go on and on.

Take the initiative to nurture your friendships. Let your friends know they are valued. Show them you care before it’s too late.

Top 5th regret

I wish I had let myself be happier:

One of the basic principles of the Law of Attraction states that the more we think about something, positive or negative, the more of it we attract. Life teaches us so much during the journey, but we tend to learn erratic lessons from it. For example, if a girl breaks your heart, you stop believing in love; if a grocery store owner cheated you once, you suspect all grocery store owners to be cheats – so on and so forth.

We let life limp by on the sharp edges of our prejudices and forget to be happy about the blessings we already have. Many of us learn to live within our tall walls of hatred, apprehensions and cynicism, not knowing that all it takes to change your world upside down is just a very small smile. That little curve on your face which brightens up not only your life but also that of those around you.

Why do we distance ourselves from happiness? Why are we afraid of joy?

We erect milestones for happiness –

When I clear my boards and get a degree, I will be the happiest!

When I get a job in an MNC, I will be the happiest!

When I buy a car, I will be the ‘most’ happiest person!

When I get both daughters married, I will be happy, and so on.

In doing so, we postpone happiness and get into the stand-by mode. This stand-by mode is very dangerous, because it influences all your decisions. It is in this mode that you push away all your priorities towards a “seemingly” distant goal, and link everything, including your happiness, to its realization.

Imagine if this goal doesn’t happen?

Suppose you have married your daughter and should now be technically ‘happy’ as your goal is realized, but you come to know that she is in a bad marriage, is your happiness postponed now to another goal – when they resolve their differences and live happily ever after?

That is the essence of happiness. You cannot chase it. You have to own it within you, irrespective of the outside circumstances. You have to free it like a kite with just a thin string in your hands, in order to let it fly.

Now that we are given a chance to think and ponder about what it is that we can do to live a life that is meaningful and not marred by materialistic possessions, let us see how we can go about achieving this:

  1. Write down a personal goal list and a professional goal list. Then accept the fact that you are NOT going to achieve everything. Strike the right balance and do what will truly fulfill you.
  2. Be a leader in your daily life. Do what you believe in, and as you want to.
  3. Be true to yourself. You are answerable only to yourself and no one else.
  4. Relationships and friendship matter. Give them time and energy. Nurture them.
  5. Never worry about the society. Your detractors are there because you give them entity. Ignore them and move forward on your chosen path with self belief.
  6. Say as you feel. Be transparent. It might not get you many friends, but it will surely get you true friends.

Make a choice to be happy. Today. Now. This very moment.

Waking up to motivation: City of Pearls, Hyderabad

Keynote Speaker Simerjeet in Hyderabad My quest to make a difference in the lives of people by assisting them to identify their best traits and reach their best potential has taken me to places far and wide. I have traveled the Middle East, UK, and South East Asia and conducted hundreds of events and workshops successfully, leaving in my wake, inspired and motivated people who have expressed their gratitude here and here.

One such quest took me to the City of Pearls, Hyderabad.

Hyderabad offered me some of my biggest clients, Vodafone AP Circle Meet being one of the largest audiences I had ever addressed in the early part of my journey as a motivational speaker. My motivational speech for this enthusiastic crowd of over a 1000 Vodafone associates at the Novotel Convention Centre became one of my primary early successes and since then I have worked with all the major circles of Vodafone India.

Hyderabad Convention Center Motivational Talk for Vodafone Hyderabad Hyderabad, synonymous with ‘Biryani’ and ‘Irani Chai’, is a paradise of foodies. While I had my fill of the scrumptious dine scene of the city, I did take some time out to sight-see and I wasn’t really surprised to see a large crowd of people outside the famous Paradise biryani restaurant.

Motivational Talk for Novartis Hyderabad As I end this note, I leave you with a couple of playlists that have some excerpts from my live sessions and some testimonials.
